I've Fallen And I Can't Get Up: God's Grace

April 2, 2018

Romans 12:2 talks about the renewal of the mind. But what does that really  mean? What is the significance of renewing the mind? When I think of renewal, I think about renewing a drivers license, renewing federal loans, renewing a vehicle registration, renewing a passport, and so forth. All of those tasks listed above are the bane of many peoples's existence, including mine. They are time consuming, tedious, and annoying. So why would I want to renew my mind?

Without renewal, I found myself back cursing, back smoking and drinking more, back in places that I evolved from... so I thought. I really had to humble myself and realize that the enemy is strong. These social media posts, the fact that I am a faithful tither, this blog, nothing human-like (works) can stop the enemy or rather me from being tempted. Never say never I guess. I realized, by myself I am not strong enough to withstand the temptations of the enemy. I have to, I repeat have to be spiritually full at all times.

This is why spiritual renewal is so important. The reason why I was so easily moved by the things of this world and completely gave over to the desires of my flesh is because I was not feeding my spirit. I was not renewing my mind. The challenge here was not that I did it to run away from something. It was not like I was trying to numb pain or block out hurts. Like I did as a coping mechanism in my life before/without  Christ. These were the things that came from my heart my own sexual desires, lustful thoughts, and fantasies. As a result of not being renewed, I completely justifiably fulfilled them.

The Bible says it's not what goes into a person that defiles them it is what comes out. What was in me was a lot of stuff that was not like the character of God. It was not reflective of who God called me to be. I think, in a way, I felt like well maybe I deserved a little fun. Or I can handle this little bit and it will be fine. In actuality those things took the front seat and I began to be fueled by my flesh and my spirit was in the distance. In my heart, in my flesh were all of the things of the enemy. All of those things I died to came alive without guidance from Christ. Flowing from my heart were things that were essentially defiling me.

The Bible says, How can we who died to sin still live in it?  Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace. (Romans 6)

Without renewing the mind, the flesh will overtake. There is a fight between good and evil, light and dark, sin and flesh. Thus, we can not be passive about our faith. We can not have faith and lack the works of intentional daily renewal if we want to walk with Christ.

I say all this to say and  to share with people that first of all sin is real. Sin is not something you overcome by bending the mind, affirmations, or grow out of. Sin is not something you can stop fighting against. When you think you have been removed from something, that is what you need to fight to overcome even more. The enemy is cunning. Like a serpent, the enemy can easily slither its way into your mind and control your actions if you allow your spiritual guard to be down.

I also want to share this with those who have not given their life to Christ and use the "them church folks are hypocrites" line as an excuse to intentionally live apart from God. Stop calling people who follow Christ hypocrites. We all sin and fall short, but that should not stop someone from telling the Truth of the Gospel because they fall short in another or the same area. There is NO condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, but there is for those who reject Jesus. Ultimately, you live by the law and will be judged. "Only God can judge me right?" Well again, with Jesus, God did not come here to judge, convict, and condemn us. Rather, God came so that when I was in a situation like I found myself, I could realize that it is not who God formed me to be, flee from that and be free from that sin. With renewal through Christ I can be free from any worldly label, condemnation, guilt, and regret associated with sin.

Personally , I can share my life because I do not  feel judged. I prayed for this platform so that I could show representation for "that girl." I know who I am and I can say that with boldness. Despite the enemies attempts,  the  things people say don't effect me because I listen to God and align my identity with who God called me to be when he formed me. I look to God's face and know that the path God has me on does not align with the paths that I take on my own without Him. I write this post  because yes I will fully share the gospel and still fall short. Through my testimonies Christ is known. I hope this message teaches every believer and those seeking Christ that God does not love you any less, God does not take back His promises, God will not leave nor forsake you. This is WHY God sent Jesus. Through His divine wisdom, God saw the people perishing because of what flowed from their heart. Things that defiled them. To serve a Holy God we also have to be a Holy people. Renewal helps us through the process of sanctification to become Holy and blameless.

I believe we have to constantly repent and find every way to flee from sin by turning to God. Do not get into a place where you are fearful or hiding from God. Do not  simply try to suppress sin on your own. Do not think you are the only person suffering in a certain area.  You are meant to be freed from it through Christ Jesus.  Do not  allow your guilt to fester up and cause you to hate yourself. Forgive yourself especially for those things you overcame, God already has. Grace abounds.

Renewal allows us to hate sin like God does. Renewal allows us to see with the eyes of God and understand why God sent Jesus here for our sins. Renewal transforms our minds for sanctification.  This is an ongoing process. Thus, do not just think renewal is a Sunday morning thing or a Wednesday night Bible study thing. Because sin can easily creep in to anyone, especially when you are not renewing your mind with the word of God.  No one is immune to the schemes of the enemy. Do not for a second think you favorite  Christian with a platform or even your godly circle  is not defeated at times or has succumbed to some form of sin. Regardless if its the "big sins or the small ones" whatever that means. Do not ever think well I just have this little sin here so I will be okay. Sin will affect you and sin will infect you.

I can't believe that despite my sin and my ratchetness God still uses me. Even when I have not even picked up my Bible in days, God still uses me to draw people to Him. So I say, just as much as we love our  sin, nothing can separate us from the love of God which has the power to overcome sin.

I am thankful for revelation and I am thankful to have been saved, fallen short, and sought after God for wholeness again. I know I am already forgiven. I know I am already set  free. Despite my own intentional sins God still uses me, God still blesses me, and  God does not take away His promises because of my own callous mistake and  behavior.  That type of love is indescribable.

Human beings are out for revenge and offense. We are always ready to  one up one another,  prove each other wrong, we always want more and more closure. God is about reconciliation!! God is about saving, mending, and fulfilling. God is about breaking chains and building bonds. Gods is about restoration, completion, and fullness thereof. So seek God, repent, and flee from your sin! Do this alongside renewing your mind.

As soon as you catch yourself slipping , backsliding, lukewarm, or stumbling run to God. Run, run, run to God! We can not be passive in our faith like I was momentarily. I believe that might be a struggle of mine.. being "busy." The enemy thought he had me busy. Sometimes I'm so tired I just place God on the back burner or half seek God because I guess I am  like well... I am already saved or maybe I will get to it tomorrow, but my spiritual life then becomes a reflection of my personal life. I am then affected by sin and then infected with it because I am not taking my day renewal. And I desire to not be like that!!! I desire to have a renewed mind.

Get back right with God because God never got wrong  with you. We see our own sin and we have to realize God dos not see those things. God sees us in the way He formed us in the beginning. That is whom God wants us to be. God wants us  walking in His image and in His likeness. God fully understands and empathizes with our human side. That is why He sent Jesus here to show us that although we have a flesh, we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.

I believe this is so because I've seen it done. I have seen alcoholics healed, smokers healed, I have seen the brain dead rise and walk again, I have seen marriages restored, I have seen life given, I have been promoted to places I was never equipped for so despite the things I mentioned earlier God is Love  regardless, but that doesn't mean I will continue on living apart from God. With a renewed mind I desire to be in alignment with God because the way I feel without God is not a good feeling. It just feels empty. It fells unfulfilled. Versus how I feel when I worship and read my word (renewal. I like that feelings more than the feeling that comes from when I sin. It is all pointless. I say to myself after why did I do that.... that didn't even fulfill me. Only God can!!!!  God is Love.
